The State has recorded the best pass percentage in 11 years with 60.47 per cent students clearing the II Pre University (PU) examination. The results were announced on Thursday.
This year’s pass percentage is higher than last year’s — 59.36, which was the highest in a decade. The II PU exam was held from March 12 to 27.
Announcing the results, Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmanne Ratnakar said that of the 6.13 lakh students who appeared for the exam, 3.71 lakh cleared it.
The pass percentage in rural areas (61.51) was not only higher than that of the urban areas (60.15) but also better than the percentage achieved by rural areas last year (61.21). Like every year, girls trumped the boys this time too with a pass percentage of 66.81 against 54.46 per cent recorded by the former.
Among the districts, Mangalore topped the list with 86.04 per cent, followed by Udupi (85.57), Kodagu (75.87), Karwar (72.36) and Chikmagalur (69.29).
Among the districts that did not fare well were Bidar, which was at the bottom of the list with a pass percentage of 44.95, Raichur (46.11), Gulbarga (46.71), Chitradurga (48.04) and Koppal (49.46).
Yadgir, which was in the last position the previous academic year, is now ranked 21.
