The Moorusavir Math succession row witnessed a new twist on Saturday evening with the police imposing prohibitory orders ahead of Sunday’s meeting. Subsequently, the incumbent seer announced his decision to step down, following which he left the math.

The seer’s decision to step down resulted in some emotional scenes with devotees pleading with him not to leave the math and the former NWKRTC chairman Mallikarjun Savakar and Shivanand Muttannavar, BJP councillor, requesting him to stay. Their efforts failed and the Swami refused to change his mind.

Ever since the Moorusavir Math’s incumbent seer, Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami, had convened a meeting of devotees on Sunday morning to decide on the succession issue, there have been voices of dissent especially against the appointment of Dingaleshwar Swami as the successor reportedly because of the several criminal cases pending against him. A group of devotees, including core-committee members Mohan Limbikai, former MLC, BJP leader Shankranna Munavalli, Nagaraj Chabbi, MLC, former Mayor Anilkumar Patil, and former KPYCC president Sadanand Danganavar, arrived at the math demanding cancellation of the Sunday meeting terming it “against the law”.

Meeting with seer

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police Hanumantharaya held a discussion with the incumbent seer and conveyed to him that the police wouldn’t allow the meeting as it was likely to create a law and order situation.

He announced that prohibitory orders would be imposed within a 500-metre radius till 6 p.m. on Sunday. Soon after this, Dingaleshwar Swami left for Bale Hosur. Moments later, Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami announced his decision to abdicate the ‘peetha’ and left for Hangal Kumaraswami Math in Hangal.
