Hemagiri gets ready for annual car fest, cattle fair

Arrangements are being made for the stay of farmers, livestock

The seven-day annual cattle fair, which is part of a popular car festival of Sri Kalyana Venkataramana Swamy Temple, will begin from February 7 at Hemagiri in K.R. Pet taluk of Mandya district.

Farmers from Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagaram, and also northern parts of the State such as Hubballi, Kalaburagi, Haveri, Vijayapura, Sindhanur, Raichur, Ranebennur, Shivamogga and Davangere, will be participating in the fair, according to sources at the K.R. Pet taluk administration.The fair is also said to attract people from neighbouring States such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra. They come there to buy and sell cattle at reasonable prices.Although the fair officially commences from February 7, the arrival and trading of cattle has already begun.

Farmers from across the State arrived at the venue of the fair on Thursday along with hundreds of livestock for trading.

At least 2,000 pairs of livestock, priced between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 4 lakh each, are expected to be brought to the fair this year for trading purpose.The taluk administration and the Department of Animal Husbandry are making adequate arrangements for the livestock as well as farmers accompanying them, sources said.
