Normal life continued to be affected to some extent in Ballari and Koppal districts, as State-owned buses continued to be off the road for the second day on Tuesday.

And, passengers were forced to depend on private buses and other mode of transport, including train services, to reach their destinations. Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation buses, private buses and mini transport vehicles operated unhindered and according to sources, APSRTC introduced some additional buses towards Guntakal and Anantapur to meet the demand.

Heavy rush was witnessed at railway stations and also at various traffic circles as passengers queued up to board mini transport vehicles.

The sources told The Hindu that efforts made in Ballari, Koppal and Hosapete cities to persuade a section of KSRTC staff members and rope in trainee crew members to run buses had not been successful.

However, it was hoped that the operation of State-owned buses may commence by Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the striking employees planned to take out a rally in Ballari city but withdrew it later owing to imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. And, their office-bearers remained out-of-reach throughout the day. In Ballari, all primary schools in urban and rural areas and high schools in rural areas would function as usual on Wednesday. However, Block Education Officers in the respective taluks have been asked to hold meetings with head masters, School Development Management Committee and private school managements to discuss reopening high schools (VIII to X standards) in urban areas on July 28, according to Veeranna Jatti, Deputy Director of Public Instructions.
