Heavy downpour disrupts life in Hubli

September 19, 2014 04:42 pm | Updated 06:22 pm IST - HUBLI:

Heavy downpour that lasted for nearly one hour in the afternoon disrupted normal life in Hubli on Friday with several main roads getting water-clogged.

The rains created problems for people residing in low lying areas. However, many residents in other localities were relieved as the downpour came as a respite from the dust they have been facing due to a dry spell for a week.

The control room of the municipal corporation received several complaints about underground drainage network getting chocked due to the downpour. There were also reports about arterial roads in the central business district including Dajibanpet Road getting inundated.

The situation was worse around Tulaja Bhavani Circle where vehicles had to pass through knee deep water and a commercial complex also was inundated. There were reports about a choked underground drainage network resulting in overflowing manholes at Birband Galli, Siddaramnagar, Kumbhakonam Plot, Gokul Road, Navanagar. The control room also received complaints about drainwater entering Gali Durgamma Temple, Srinagar Cooperative Society locality and a few other areas. eom
