Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil has said that the State government has chartered on the path of providing healthcare facilities for all citizens through health insurance schemes and bringing speciality treatment to the doorsteps of all.
It was also making efforts to eradicate hunger through schemes such as Anna Bhagya and Antyodaya, he said after inaugurating a free health check-up and treatment camp for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at Kamalapur, 30 km from here, on Monday.
Dr. Patil said that doctors working in primary health centres, taluk hospitals, and district hospitals and health workers in rural areas should create awareness about the availability of speciality treatment facilities in hospitals such as the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Kalaburagi and the affordable treatment available for cardiac-related problems there.
He said that those from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes could get free treatment at the institute and below poverty line (BPL) card holders could get it at highly subsidised rates. Dr. Patil said that with the opening of government medical colleges in all district headquarters, the government had brought specialised treatment facilities at the doorsteps of the poorer sections of society. He said that the upgraded cancer hospital in Kalaburagi would be ready for inauguration in a month or two and patients need not go to Bengaluru or approach private hospitals. All BPL card holders would get free treatment there.
