Health dept asked to install burglar alarms at PHCs

The rise in thefts at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Mandya district has prompted the police to ask the Department of Health and Family Welfare to ensure safety measures at its PHCs.

A gang of unidentified “professional thieves” targeted PHCs at four different villages in the last three weeks and looted electronic gadgets worth rupees several lakh.

Subsequently, the police department has directed the health department to install burglar alarms and other safety gadgets at the PHCs.

The PHCs in Mandya district lack safety measures. Doors and locks of many PHCs are very weak, say police officials.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer (DHO) H.P. Manchegowda, said that the department would install burglar alarms shortly.

Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase has instructed to install them, he told The Hindu.
