The District and Sessions Court will pass its order on the bail plea moved by the 11 accused in cattle trader Hussainabba’s death case on June 18, while the post-mortem report submitted to the court, according to an advocate and police sources, pointed to head injury as the cause of death.

The police submitted the post-mortem report to the court on Thursday. According to the report, Hussainabba, 62, died from haemorrhage on account of injuries to the head, said M. Shantharam Shetty, an advocate for the accused, and this was confirmed by police sources.

It would take a couple months to get the FSL report in the case, sources added.

Sources in the Police Department said here on Friday that one of the accused in the case, Deepak Hegde, had sold cattle to Hussainabba. But after selling it, he was in contact with the right-wing group that later allegedly assaulted Hussainabba. Hence he has been booked not only for illegally selling cattle, but also in the murder case.

All the transactions pertaining to the cattle sale and transportation were done at night, the police said. This was because if the cattle had to be transported legally, many permissions had to be taken, including from the gram panchayat, and other authorities. The cattle would have to be taken in bigger vehicles and not cramped in small vehicles.

At the same time, there were hardly any case of cattle theft being registered in the district. This meant that those selling cattle were doing so voluntarily to the cattle buyers, police sources said.

Hussainabba was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Shenarbettu, near Perdoor, in Hiriyadka police station limits in Udupi district on May 30. His brother Mohammed Ismail registered a police complaint on the same day stating that the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) in which Hussainbba was transporting 13 head of cattle was waylaid by Bajrang Dal activists at Shenarbettu. Hussainabba was assaulted by the activists at Shenarbettu and he later died in police custody, Mr. Ismail said in his complaint. The police booked a murder case Home Ministry has transferred the case from the district police to the CID.

Meanwhile, the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate extended judicial custody of the 11 accused in the Hussainabba case till June 28.
