Head constable dies in accident

Mahadevaswamy, a head constable attached to the Udayagiri police station, died here on Thursday. He had met with a road accident while returning home on Wednesday. The police said that Mahadevaswamy was run over by a speeding truck on Bannur Road. The truck driver tried to speed away from the scene but a patrol vehicle stopped the truck and took the driver into custody.

The Udayagiri police have registered a case.

Three arrested

Two persons were arrested on the charge of abetting the marriage of a minor girl, while another person who “married” her has been taken into custody on the charge of rape. The police said that Somu (22) had secretly married the minor. Following a complaint from the girl’s grandmother, the police arrested Somu and two of his relatives.
