HC orders CID probe into activities of recreational clubs

July 31, 2014 11:18 pm | Updated 11:18 pm IST - Bangalore:

Taking serious note of recreational clubs organising gambling, the Karnataka High Court on Thursday directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to probe the activities of all the recreational clubs/associations in all districts of the State and submit a report to the court within six months.

Justice S.N. Satyanarayana issued the directions after the State government demonstrated, through a video presentation, to the court how recreational clubs and associations organise illegal games of chances in the guise of holding skill games, which are legal. The court passed the orders while hearing the petitions filed by two recreational clubs in Bangalore questioning registration of criminal cases against them by the Upparpet and the Vyalikaval police after raiding their premises on the information that they were organising gambling.
