The Karnataka High Court on Thursday ordered issue of notice to the State on a public interest litigation petition seeking a probe into the alleged “cash-for-certificate” scam in the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) certificate examinations held in November.
A vacation Division Bench comprising Justice A.N. Venugopala Gowda and Justice B. Manohar passed the order on a petition filed by K. Lakshman and others alleging that though there are only about 9,000 approved students in ITIs in the State, almost 12,000 students were allowed to take examinations.
They contended that some of the officials of the Directorate of Employment and Training, in connivance with private individuals and others, allowed 3,000 students, who were not studying in any ITIs, to appear for the examinations illegally.
All these “illegal” candidates were allowed to take examination on payment of Rs.10,000 to Rs. 20,000 from each of them on assurance of a ITI certificate, it was alleged.
The petition said the way the students were allocated certain exam centres indicate it was for allowing “mass copying”.
