The Karnataka High Court, on Thursday, granted bail to V. Shashidhar, president of Akhila Karnataka Police Mahasangha, who was arrested on the charges of sedition for launching campaign instigating the police personnel to go on a day's mass leave demanding fulfilment of long-pending welfare measures.
Justice Anand Byrareddy passed the order, while allowing the petitions filed by Mr. Shashidhar and two other accused persons.
Mr. Shashidhar was arrested by the police on June 2, as he had given a call to police personnel to go on mass leave on June 4.
While asking the accused to furnish a bond for Rs. 50,000 and a surety of like sum, the court directed Mr. Shashidhar not to instigate the police to go on strike and not leave the jurisdiction of the trial court without permission.
Shashidhar, who was a police constable, was dismissed from the police department way back in the 1980s.
