The Karnataka High Court today directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to file a chargesheet and complete its probe by March 31 into the allegations of rape against former Food and Supplies Minister H Halappa.

Disposing of a petition filed by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) seeking CBI probe into the matter, the division bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice A S Bopanna directed the CID to complete its probe by March 31 and asked DIG CID Charan Reddy to personally supervise the investigation.

Mr. Halappa, the then Food and Civil Supplies Minister, was forced to resign on May 2, 2010, after his friend Venkatesh Murthy alleged that the minister had raped his wife.
