The Hassan police have succeeded in solving the murder case of a retired Forest Department official, who had gone missing last week. The police are said to have taken three persons, including an activist in Hassan, into custody, in connection with the case.
Missing officer
Chengappa (66), a retired range forest officer, who was residing in Hassan, went missing last week. His family members filed a missing complaint with Hassan City police stating that he had been carrying a big amount of cash with him when he left home. He had not returned home since then.
A couple of days ago, an unknown person called up Chengappa’s family to inform them that he had left Bengaluru. They passed on this information to the police.
Based on the phone call, the police continued the investigation and found the retired officer’s body in Hemavati backwaters in Alur Police station limits.
‘Murdered for money’
It is said that Chengappa had received Rs. 50 lakh from a person in connection with a seat in a private medical college. Some people, who were aware of the deal, reportedly followed him and murdered him for money.
Vishwas (25), a resident of Hassan, an activist, is one among the three people, whom the police have taken into custody.
The arrested are expected to be presented before a magistrate on Tuesday.
