Hassan figures in the list of cities with minimum pollution, as per the WHO report. The survey conducted across the globe included three cities of Karnataka. Among them, Hassan has reported least pollution levels. The pollution level has been measured with the concentration of dust particles in the air.

K.V. Shivakumar, Environment Officer of Hassan, told The Hindu on Friday, “Hassan has remained one among the cities with minimum pollution level. In the previous survey, the results of which were released in 2014 also, Hassan was one among the three cities in the country with least pollution.”

Particulate matter with a diameter of 10 micron (PM10) and 2.5 micron (PM2.5) were considered for the survey. The daily measurements were aggregated into annual mean.
