Mystery shrouds the disappearance of a 52-year-old woman who was working as a pourakarmika in Gulbarga University untill a year ago.

According to the Gulbarga University Non-Teaching Employees’ Association president M.B. Sajjan, Sharanamma Madanker, a Dalit woman, went missing on October 1, 2008. Sharanamma was living alone in her house at Tajsultanpur on the outskirts of the city. On October 1, 2008, she went to the Super Market bus stand to take a bus to Gulbarga University. But, she never reached the university on that day and there has been no trace of her since then. The police registered a case in this regard on October 11, 2008.

Mr. Sajjan and association members staged a dharna in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Gulbarga on Thursday demanding the Government to hand over the case of the missing woman to the Corps of Detectives (CoD) for investigation. According to Mr. Sajjan, Sharanamma was living alone and she had a lot of gold jewellery. He said he suspected that she might have been kidnapped and murdered for her jewellery.
