The Second Additional District and Sessions Court here has concluded a hearing on a case related to the charges of rape levelled against former Minister H. Halappa on Tuesday and has reserved its order in this regard for August 17.

It may be mentioned here that a woman, allegedly Mr. Halappa’s friend’s wife, had lodged a complaint with the police in March 2010 alleging that Mr. Halappa had raped her. Based on the complaint, the police had booked cases under section 376 (Rape) and 506 (Criminal Intimidation) of the IPC against him.

In the wake of the complaint, Mr. Halappa, who was Minister for Food and Civil Supplies in the BJP government, had to resign. The State government had ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to probe into the complaint. As part of the hearing, the court had examined 12 witnesses. On Tuesday, it reserved its order on the case for August 17. Mr. Halappa attended the hearing on Tuesday.
