August 11, 2014 01:52 am | Updated November 27, 2021 06:56 pm IST - GULBARGA:

Infrastructure Development and Haj Minister Roshan Baig has said that Haj pilgrims from India should take precautionary measures against ebola virus, which is spreading from African countries to other parts of the world, during their pilgrimage.

Speaking at a valedictory function of a two-day refresher-cum-training programme for Haj pilgrims from the Gulbarga region here on Sunday, Mr. Baig said that the pilgrims should be extra cautious about their food habits and should not fall victim to common diseases during pilgrimage.

Mr. Baig said that the pilgrims selected for Haj this year should make full use of information provided at the refresher-cum-training programme to make their pilgrimage incident-free.

He said that women pilgrims have also been provided tips on cooking different types of food best suited for the weather conditions in Saudi Arabia.

Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge, in his brief address to the pilgrims, said that the pilgrims should take care of their health and should carry all their documents and first aid kits always with them. He said that pilgrims by their conduct should ensure that the prestige of their country is protected and held in high esteem. “You represent India in Saudi Arabia during your pilgrimage; you should ensure that the prestige of the country is protected,” he said.

Congress MLC and former chairman of the Central Haj Committee Iqbal Ahmed Saradagi spoke.
