Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has announced plans to open Police Commissionerates in Gulbarga and Belgaum.
He was speaking at the valedictory of Karnataka State Police Annual Sports Meet, held at the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) Parade Grounds in Koramangala on Saturday.
The blazing heat did little to stop enthusiastic police personnel and spectators enjoying themselves. The climbing mercury notwithstanding, police teams from the KSRP and Mysore Southern Police Range, in shorts and pullovers, kicked off the day’s event with a tug-of-war. The sportsmanship inspired Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok, who presided over the valedictory function of the three-day meet, to go up to them on the field for a closer look.
The meet concluded with events for men and women personnel such as 100-m sprints and 4x100-m relays. There was even a competition for the women dignitaries present at the function, including the wives of DG&IGP Lalrokhuma Pachau and Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Kolar Gold Fields Superintendent of Police Rohini Katoch and retired IPS officer Jija Hari Singh, among others.
A march past with police personnel representing every district in State and a display of fireworks marked the finale.
