Groups to protest against Land Acquisition Act on April 28

April 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - KALABURAGI:

Various splinter groups of the Dalit organisations in the State have joined hands with farmer organisations to raise a banner of revolt against the amendment to the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.

They have launched a ‘Vidhana Soudha Chalo’ padayatra programme from Naragund in Gadag district to Bengaluru. Addressing a joint press conference here on Sunday, the leaders of Dalit and farmers organisations charged the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of pursuing a pro multi-national company (MNC) agriculture policy.

The amendment to the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 was to take away the rights of farmers over agricultural land and give a free hand to the MNCs to set up their industries on fertile agriculture land, they said.

The padayatra by the members of these organisations have been launched simultaneously from all the districts on April 8.

The farmers and members of the Dalit organisations participating in the padayatra would converge in Bengaluru on April 28 to march towards the Vidhana Soudha.
