Group clash in Chamarajanagar

Members of two communities clashed at Santhemaralli Circle extension in Chamarajanagar town on Saturday night, after a hoarding that allegedly hurt the sentiments of a community was installed in the extension. It was later removed.

A police constable and a few persons sustained minor injuries when unidentified youth pelted stones at houses. An autorickshaw and shops were damaged in the clash. The police resorted to tear gas and lathi charge to control the mob. The police took more than 15 persons in custody. A peace committee meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Sunday. The situation is now peaceful but police have been stationed in the area.
