A number of people listed their woes at the Janaspandana meeting held here on Monday by the district in-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa. Most of the grievances were related to Ashraya houses, BPL cards, old age and widow pension.

Shivamma, Harish, Swarna and many others from Paduvaralli complained that they along with 498 others, had applied for Ashraya sites about 15 years ago and had paid an amount of Rs.10,100 for an Ashraya house.

“Till today, however, the houses have not been built,” the applicants lamented. They had availed of loans to pay the initial amount to the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) but when they enquired with the officials, they were asked to show them the vacant lands in Mysuru. They criticised the apathy of the officials in identifying lands and building Ashraya houses. All the applicants for the houses are BPL card holders and have been patiently waiting for 15 years for the houses. They said they had expressed their problems to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah a few months ago who reportedly summoned the MCC officials and directed them to identify land and start building the houses.

M. Anand Kumar, secretary, Labour Cell, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), complained that over 2,750 people submitted applications for Ashraya houses in Mantakalli and Sri Rampura about 15 years ago and were still waiting for the houses. The district administration had sanctioned seven acres of lands in survey numbers 141 and 80 to the MCC to construct the houses. However, the Corporation has not yet commenced work.

Notice issued

Mr. Kumar said that the previous Deputy Commissioner had issued a notice on the MCC asking for the lands sanctioned for Ashraya houses to be taken aback as they had not been used. The MCC neither responded to the notice nor initiated any work on the houses, he alleged.

Javarappa, an ex-serviceman, said that the MCC had granted a no objection certificate to a private land developer to form a layout on government land reserved for burial ground in Mysuru. He asked the Minister to take action against the officials and the builder.

Many aged, handicapped and widowed people complained that they were still not sanctioned pensions even though they had submitted certificates proving they were eligible for the same some time ago.
