April 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - BALLARI:

H.K. Patil, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, has said the proposed elections to gram panchayats would be held as per schedule.

Responding to questions here on Sunday, Mr. Patil said fixing the term of the president of the gram panchayat to five years and delimitation of wards were among the amendments incorporated to the Karnataka Panchayt Raj Act. The elections will be held in May, he said. Mr. Patil said around 88 recommendations, made by the S.S. Nanjayyanamath Committee, were discussed by the Cabinet Sub-Committee and a report would be submitted to the Cabinet for taking a final decision. “Some recommendations, including a full five-year term for the presidents of gram, taluk and zilla panchayats, instead of the present 20-month term, had already been accepted and was being implemented,” he said.
