Minister for Cooperation H.S. Mahadeva Prasad has said that the State government is committed to bringing more people under the purview of Yashaswini health insurance scheme.
Earlier, it was mandatory to become members of cooperative societies for a period of 6 months to be eligible to enrol under the Yashaswini scheme.
Law relaxedSubsequently, the law was relaxed and the number of months of membership in cooperative societies was reduced to three.
ObjectiveWith the objective of bringing more people under the purview of the Yashaswini scheme, the State government is thinking of further relaxing the rules and enrol people having one-month-old membership in cooperative societies, he said at a programme organised to inaugurate a new building of the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) in Bheemanakone, a village in Sagar taluk on Sunday.
The rate of recovery of loans taken by farmers from cooperative societies was 70 per cent in the State.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has requested the National Bank for Agriculture an Rural Development to increase the annual financial assistance it was providing to cooperative societies for disbursing agriculture loan, he said.
Mr. Prasad said that over 60 lakh children in government and aided schools and over 40 lakh children enrolled in anganwadi centres had benefited from the Ksheera Bhagya scheme. The financial condition of cooperative milk unions has also improved after the scheme was introduced, he said.
Speaker of Legislative Assembly Kagodu Thimmappa inaugurated the new building of the PACS.
Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Rathnakar, President of the Karnataka State Cooperative Apex Bank R.M. Manjunatha Gowda were among those present at the inaugural function.
