Govt. urged to announce policy for teacher transfer

Also, for textbook revision

November 13, 2017 12:28 am | Updated 08:00 am IST - HUBBALLI:

The former MLC and leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) K. Balakrishna Bhat has urged the State government to come forward with a definite policy with regard to transfer of teachers and revision of school textbooks.

Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Bhat said that the State having no definite policy with regard to the transfer of government school teachers was leading to unnecessary confusion every year.

Teachers form the largest group among the State government employees. However, the successive governments have failed to implement a definite transfer policy. The teachers have been demanding for inter-zonal transfers to ensure better quality of education. The government has approved inter-zonal transfer for the State Road Transport Corporation employees. It is even contemplating giving approval to a proposal for inter-university transfers of the teaching staff, Mr. Bhat said.

However, the government is yet to consider seriously the need for having a transfer policy for school teachers. There may be several hitches in introducing inter-zonal transfer for school teachers. But the government should make some forward move in consultation with teachers, officials and experts, he said.

Similarly, it was time that the government initiated steps to have a policy for revising school textbooks. There is no definite policy fixing parameters for revising textbooks. As a result, textbooks are revised every time the government changes. It was not in the interests of the education sector. There should be a definite policy prescribing parameters for revision of textbooks, Mr. Bhat said.
