Members of the Karnataka Rajya Dalit Sangharsh Samiti has blamed the Maharashtra government for the murder of rationalist activist Narendra Dabholkar in Pune and the gang-rape of a photojournalist in Mumbai.

The members, led by senior leader Malleshi Sajjan, staged a protest here on Monday condemning the two incidents. They said that the murder of Dr. Dabholkar showed the “religious intolerance and rise of fundamental forces” in Maharashtra.

The gang-rape of the photojournalist “exposed the lack of protection to women in Maharashtra and the failure of the government to protect journalists while they discharged their duties. In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan and submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the DSS demanded stringent action against the perpetrators.
