Govt. releases Rs. 5 cr. for development of Kallahalli, Bettada Thunga villages

The State government has released the first instalment of Rs.5 crore for the development of Kallahalli and Bettada Thunga into model villages as part of the Devaraja Urs centenary celebrations. The two villages were adopted by the government for upgrading the infrastructure during the centenary year of the former Chief Minister, who was born at Bettada Thunga and brought up at Kallahalli.

A sum of Rs.20 crore has been earmarked for the purpose and G.S. Somashekar, BCM officer, told The Hindu that the government released the first instalment of Rs.5 crore a few days ago and the civic works would be launched in the next few days. Giving details about the works to be taken up , Mr. Somashekar said that RO (reverse osmosis) plants will be installed in the two villages to provide potable water. Similarly, a digital library will be set up for the benefit of students and theme parks would be constructed in the villages, he said.

Existing roads will be re-laid and it would be asphalted and covered drains would be constructed. A community hall will be built in the villages to enable people to perform any ritual without incurring heavy expenses on private halls, he added.

A playground will also be constructed and equipment to practice and play different games would be provided . A library will also be set up in the villages, and besides newspapers and journals, television sets would also be installed in the libraries. Computers with internet facility will be provided at the library, schools and hostels.
