The State government is considering providing healthy food at subsidised rates in government hospitals. The food, prepared in hygienic conditions, will not only be available to patients but also to outsiders.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader told presspersons here on Sunday that there had been complaints about the quality of food provided in government hospitals. . As some of these hospitals are in prime locations, food could be provided to those passing by these hospitals as well, he said. While he was in favour of offering food at Re. 1, there was a demand to fix the price at the cost incurred while preparing the food. The department was in talks with a non-governmental organisation to take up the task.

Mr. Khader said he was discussing the initiative with Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Rao.
