‘Govt. has failed to handle police officers’ suicide cases properly’

B.S. Yeddyurappa, State unit president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has alleged that the State government has created a fear among efficient officers by “mishandling” cases related to the suicide of police officers.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself harassed a police officer, who registered a case against his son during the last Assembly election in Mysuru, he said while addressing party workers at a function here on Monday. Chandrashekhargowda Magnur took charge as the party district unit president at the function.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that Dy.SP M.K. Ganapathy, who allegedly committed suicide recently, had named Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George and senior police officers before hanging himself. However, Mr. Siddamaiah was not interested in taking action against them and was trying to close the case and protect Mr. George, he alleged. He said that the BJP would protest against the State government until Mr. George was dropped from the Cabinet.

Shobha Karandlaje, MP, said that the Chief Minister had failed to protect the interests of the common man and farmers in distress.

Narasimha Naik, former Minister, alleged that Mr. Siddaramaiah had introduced one more scheme titled ‘Suicide Bhagya’ for efficient officers.
