Govt. halts recruitment for teaching posts at UoM

July 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - MYSURU:

The University of Mysore’s move to carry out recruitment for more than 200 teaching posts has been stymied by the State government.

In a letter to the university’s Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa, the Additional Chief Secretary to the Higher Education Department, Bharat Lal Meena, has directed the university to halt the process of recruitment until further orders.

Mr. Meena pointed out that the State Legislature Committee on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes had, during a meeting in January 2016, found that the university had neither followed the roster system properly nor filled up the backlog vacancies earlier. The committee had strongly opposed any recruitment till the issue of backlog vacancies was resolved.

The committee’s decision was communicated by the government to the varsity through two letters on March 4 and March 26.

But the university, without following the directions, issued a notification to fill up the vacant posts of professor, associate professor and assistant professors through direct recruitment. Hence, in a letter dated July 11, Mr. Meena directed the university to halt the process till further orders.

It may be mentioned here that the university, in a notification issued on June 24, had invited applications to fill up the backlog as well as current vacancies for teaching posts in the postgraduate departments, postgraduate centres and constituent colleges of the university.
