Govt. cries halt to recruitment for teaching posts by University of Mysore

The University of Mysore’s plans to carry out direct recruitment for more than 200 teaching posts have been stymied by the State government.

In a letter to Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa, the Additional Chief Secretary to the Higher Education Department, Bharat Lal Meena, has directed the University to halt the process of recruitment till further orders.

Mr. Meena points out that the State Legislature Committee on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes had, during a meeting in January 2016, had found that the University, during its earlier recruitment, had neither followed the roster system properly nor filled up the backlog vacancies. Hence, till the Committee had decided against the University carrying out any recruitment till the issue of backlog vacancies was resolved.

The Committee’s decisions were communicated by the State government to the UoM through two letters – dated March 4 and March 26 this year. But, the varsity, without following the directions, issued a notification to fill up the vacant posts of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professors through direct recruitment.

Hence, in the letter dated July 11, Mr. Meena has directed the University to halt the process of recruitment till further orders.

It may be mentioned here that UoM, in a notification, issued on June 24 had invited applications to fill up the backlog as well as current vacancies for teaching posts in the postgraduate departments, postgraduate centres and constituent colleges of the University.
