Sharanprakash Patil, Minister for Medical Education and district in-charge, has said that young people had greater responsibility in protecting the rich cultural heritage of Kannada language and lead the State to a prosperous future.

Speaking after offering floral tributes to Goddess Bhuvaneshwari to mark the inauguration of the 62nd Rajyotsava Day celebrations at Nagareshwar School Grounds here on Wednesday, Dr. Patil remembered the contribution of Alur Venkat Rao to unify the State and said that without him, it would have been impossible to get statehood.

Dr. Patil said that the contribution of Kannada language to world literature had been immense. The first classical Kannada text, Kavirajamarga, authored by King Amoghavarsha Nrupatunga dated back to the 9th Century. The 12th Century Vachana Sahitya and 14th century Dasa Sahitya were the two eyes of Kannada literature. Karnataka had been the home of people from different religions, he added.

Recalling the tireless efforts of Deputy Channabasappa, who dreamt of a unified Karnataka in 1856, finally after a struggle of more than 100 years, a State was formed for Kannadigas in 1956.

Dr. Patil reiterated the State government’s commitment to ensuring the development of the Hyderabad Karnataka region.
