Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said here on Sunday that his government was committed to removing regional imbalances by implementing the recommendations of the high power committee headed by economist D.M. Nanjundappa. The government would continue allocate funds and implement works to bridge the developmental gaps between various regions and strive for the comprehensive development and progress of the entire state.

He said the government had entrusted the Dharwad-based Centre for Multi Disciplinary Research Institution to evaluate various works taken up as per the Nanjundappa committee’s recommendations.

Addressing a large gathering at the foundation-laying ceremony for the Rs. 331 crore World Bank assisted project, upgrading of road stretch of 107.93 kms (Mudhol-Mahalingpura-Kabbur-Chikodi-Nipani-Maharashtra border) of the State Highway-18 in Bagalkot and Belagavi districts taken up under the Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project (KSHIP), at Chikodi on Sunday, he said the construction works will commence from both ends of the road simultaneously and will be completed in two years.

On the demand for creation of new Chikodi district, the chief minister assured that he would convene a meeting of all the concerned, including elected representatives and leaders of the area and take an appropriate decision soon.

Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa said the previous advised against taking up the project proposed over a decade ago and taken up with the World Bank in 2012. But, the KSHIP Managing director P. Manivannan and leaders of the two districts made it possible during the period of present government.
