Governor in Bhalki on April 20

Governor Vajubhai Vala will inaugurate a programme to observe the 17th death anniversary of Sri Channabasava Pattaddevaru and the Pattadhikara ceremony of Sri Guru Basava Devaru in Bhalki on April 20. Over one lakh devotees are expected to participate, Sri Basavalinga Pattaddevaru told presspersons on Sunday.

President of the State BJP, B.S. Yeddyurappa, will release a book on the Mutt on the occasion. Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar will inaugurate a krishi mela and former minister Bheemanna Khandre will preside over the programme.

Tontada Siddhalinga Swamy, Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamy of Suttur Muu, and other seers will be present. Neeraj Patil, who was instrumental in installing a statue of Basaveshwara in London, will be felicitated. An art exhibition and a blood donation camp will also be organised.

Hanchate Sanjiv Kumar, Principal District and Sessions Judge, will inaugurate a discussion session on “Basava Tatva - Dharma Chintane” on April 20 evening. Siddanna Langoti, Abhinava Siddharoodha Swami of Vijayapura, Mahanta Swamy of Raichur and Gangambika Akka will address the gathering.

Union Minister H.N. Ananth Kumar will inaugurate a discussion session on “Basava Tatva - Samaja Chintane” on the morning of April 21.

Siddeshwar Swamy of Vijayapura, Shivamurthy Shivacharya Swamy and Shivamurthy Murugha Sharana will speak on the occasion. Kettittu Kalyana, a Kannada play, will also be staged.

Religious rituals and renaming of the Seer Guru Basava Devaru will be held on the morning of April 22.

Union Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh, Ministers H.K. Patil, S.R. Patil, M.B. Patil, Sharanaprakash Patil, Umashree, Vinay Kulkarni and others will be present. A play on Akka Mahadevi will also be staged.
