Concerned: Congress workers staging a dharna in Davangere on Thursday.

Congress workers took out a protest march and laid siege to the office of the Superintendent Engineer, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) here on Thursday.

They alleged that the administration in the State had come to a standstill and the Bharatiya Janata Party Government had failed to provide uninterrupted power supply in the region despite good rains in the State.

The workers, led by district committee general secretary D. Basavaraju and Youth Congress president Dinesh K. Shetty, raised slogans against Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa for the load-shedding.

The activists demanded that the Chief Minister step down if he was unable to provide basic facilities such as power.

The situation had not been so bad even when the monsoon had failed, they alleged.

Mr. Basavaraju said that frequent power cuts had affected industrialists, students, professionals, small-scale industries and businesses badly, and people had lost faith in the BJP.

K.G. Shivakumar, A. Nagaraj, S. Mallikarjun, Duggalli Jayanna, Ananda Raj were among the leaders who participated in the protest.
