The Karnataka High Court on Friday granted interim anticipatory bail till Tuesday to Gonal Bhimappa, former Chairman of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), in a criminal case registered against him and seven others in connection with the allegations of corruption in the selection of Gazetted Probationers Group A and B.
Justice Anand Byrareddy passed the order on a petition filed by Mr. Bhimappa while expressing apprehension about his arrest. The petitioner pointed out that his daughter’s marriage was scheduled for June 30 and expressed the fear that he could be arrested by the investigating agency before this . He denied the allegations of corruption in the recruitment and said he was not involved in it.
He has been arraigned as a prime accused in the first information report registered by the Vidhana Soudha police on June 25 based on a complaint given by the State government after two candidates, Gangadharaiah and Dr. Mythri H.P.S, submitted representations alleging grant of more marks to some candidates in the written examination in certain subjects, and demand of money made on behalf of some KPSC members to grant more marks in interviews.
Further hearing on the petition has been adjourned till July 2.
Admission under RTE
The court on Friday directed St. Mira’s English School, Bangalore, to admit provisionally two students to Class 1 under the Right to Education Act.
Justice Ashok B. Hinchigeri passed the interim order while hearing a petition filed on behalf of C. Hitesh and T.S. Prajwal, who complained that they were not admitted into the 19 seats that come under the RTE.
However, the school claimed that it was a minority education institution and did not come within the ambit of RTE. But the government contended that minority status was accorded to schools only on May 8, 2013, and it should have admitted students under RTE as the government provided the list of students in March and minority tag operated prospectively. Further hearing has been adjourned till July 1.
