Goa Minister still absconding

April 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST

Sir,— Margao Judicial Magistrate First Class Pooja Kavlekar has rightly said that it was embarrassing for the Goa Police as they have not been able to locate the convicted and now absconding Goa’s former Rural Development Minister Mickky Pacheco. A police team is in New Delhi to trace Mr. Pacheco. But they have surprisingly not found him yet. How long will he hide?Aires Rodrigues

Goa

Open exam centre

at Kalaburagi

Sir, — The demand that Kalaburagi be made an examination centre for IIT, APMT, JEE, UPSC etc. is still pending. I do not understand the rationale behind the reluctance of authorities in making Kalaburagi a centre.

The poor and the middle class are the worst hit as they have to go to Bengaluru or Hyderabad to write exams. The city has two universities and a regional office campus of Visvesvaraya Technological University, besides numerous engineering/medical/degree colleges which are fully equipped.

Mudgal Venkatesh,

Kalaburagi

Lapse of funds

Sir,— As a responsible citizen, I hang my head in shame after reading reports that the Kalaburagi Zilla Panchayat could not spend about Rs. 2 crore for development works in 2014-2015. I congratulate the zilla panchayat members for staging a protest and a dharna over the issue. The chief executive officer’s promise that the government would be persuaded to release the lapsed funds in the coming year did not bring credit either to him or to the officials. I urge the government to take action against officers, including the CEO.

Basavaraj Modi,

Kalaburagi
