Girl who fell into sambar vessel dies in Karnataka

Seven-year-old Anusha, a first standard student of Darinayakanapalya government primary school in Gouribidanur taluk of Chikballapur district, who fell into a hot sambar vessel on Tuesday, succumbed to her injuries in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The critically injured Anusha was admitted to Victoria hospital burns ward with 70 per cent burns. She is the daughter of Ashwathappa and Venkatamma, both labourers in the village.

The Manchenahalli police, who registered a case of negligence case against the school authorities, said that the incident happened around 1.10 p.m. on Tuesday. The girl was leading the queue waiting for the meals to be served when she slipped and fell into the vessel amidst jostling by the students. The others students screamed for help and managed to pull her out of the vessel.

The teachers, including the headmaster, who were having lunch in one of the rooms in the school, rushed out and took her to the Gowribidanur town hospital, where she was referred to the Victoria Hospital.

The Victoria hospital police said that body has been handed over to the parents after conducting autopsy.
