Eighty-five people from Kotagera village in Yadgir taluk and district were admitted to various health centres and the district hospital with symptoms of vomitting and diarrhoea due to an outbreak of gastroenteritis recently.
According to district hospital sources, 65 patients have been admitted in the district hospital and another 20 in the Primary Health Centre at Kotagera village. Their condition was reported to be stable and no fresh case had been reported now.
Contamination of a drinking water source was suspected to be the reason for the outbreak of gastroenteritis. Chef Executive Officer of the Yadgir Zilla Panchayat P. Sunil Kumar told The Hindu that instructions had been issued to the concerned gram panchayat to replace the drinking water pipeline and clean the overhead tank immediately.
District Health Officer Amaresh Kolur and a team of doctors were in the village supervising the treatment and shifting the affected to different hospitals.
In another incident, more than 30 people from Mundaragi, Ganapur, Yargol, Kumanur, Gaddesuguru, Honagera and Hattikuni were admitted in the district hospital from April 22 to 24, with complaints of vomitting and diarrhoea due to gastroenteritis.
This was also due to contamination of drinking water. The condition of all the patients was stated to be stable and majority of them have been discharged.
