While noted musicians will pay musical tribute to the doyenne of Hindustani classical music, Gangubai Hangal across the country on March 5, it will be a memorable day for her grandson Manoj Hangal, as he will get a chance to pay musical tribute to his grandmother.
Members of the Hangal family Narayanarao Hangal, Shrikanth Hangal, Prakash Hangal and vocalist Pandit Ashok Nadiger told press persons here on Tuesday that through his first vocal concert Manoj would continue the family’s music tradition.
Mr Prakash said that the 102nd birth anniversary of the late musician would be held at ‘Ganga Lahari’ (the house where Gangubai lived till her demise) at Deshpandenagar on March 5 at 11 a.m. Tammanna Patil and Viresh Akki would accompany Manoj on harmonium and tabla, he said.

President of the Dr Gangubai Hangal Music Foundation Manoj Hangal said that the Foundation would confer the ‘Gangubai Hangal Yuva Rashtriya Puraskar’ and ‘Smt. Krishna Hangal Rashtriya Puraskar’ in the last week of April, 2015.
He said that the Foundation would organise various dance and music programmes throughout the year to in line with the family’s musical tradition and also of the twin cities.
