Gangothri Glades in the city will play host to the first leg of the Wadiyar Karnataka Premier League (KPL) 2014 with eleven day and night matches scheduled to be held at the venue between August 28 and September 3.
After conclusion of the first leg in Mysore, the championship will travel to Bangalore and Hubli.
“We look forward to seeing cricket fans from Mysore at the stadium, cheering their team for all the matches,” said Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president P R Ashok Anand.
Speaking after launching the logo of Mysore Warriors, Mr. Anand said seven teams will vie for top honours in the championship, whose finals will be played in Hubli on September 12.
The KPL 2014 has been dedicated to the late scion of Mysore royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar. “KPL 2014 will be a tribute to Mr. Wadiyar,
who nurtured and promoted the sport throughout his life,” he said.
KPL, which was launched in 2009, was discontinued after the 2010 edition.
Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, wife of the late scion, said in a message to the KSCA, “I appreciate the gesture of dedicating the tournament to my late husband, who in the run-up to the last elections, walked cricket, talked cricket and thought cricket… He was particularly keen to promote KPL to provide an opportunity to mofussil players with the message ‘No matter who you are or what your position is, you must keep fighting for whatever it is you want to achieve’.” The highlight of the third edition of the championship will be the introduction of an all-star celebrity team – Rockstars – led by Kannada film actor Kiccha Sudeep, said Mr Anand.
All the matches will be telecast live, he added.
