Senior bureaucrat Gangaram Baderiya, who was arrested recently in the Janthakal Mining case, was granted bail on Friday by the city special Lokayukta court.

Mr. Baderiya was Principal Secretary, Revenue Department, when he was held on May 16. He was the Commissioner (Mines) in 2007 when Janthakal Mines was permitted to lift mined ore in Chitradurga. Initially, his release was blocked as SIT had secured body warrant in another case — Hanuman Mines case, a mining firm also owned by Vinod Goel of Janthakal Mines. Sanction for Prosecution against Mr. Baderiya had been pending before the State government for over 10 months. However, SIT secured body warrant stating that they found additional evidence. But the court withdrew the body warrant on Friday evening paving way for his release.
