Gang held for looting businessman

Belagavi police have arrested a gang of youth on charges of looting a businessman in the city a few days ago.

The gang of six threw chilli powder on Anil Porwal, a trader, and ran away with his cash on June 1. Police arrested five of them and recovered Rs. 9.88 lakh. Deputy Commissioner of Police Amarnath Reddy told presspersons that the gang had tried to rob the trader earlier, but had failed.

Kiran Madannanavar, 28, Ravi Talwar, 27, Jotiba Hanchinamani, 22, and Anil Pedannanavar and Rajesh Varur, both 19, were arrested after a week-long inquiry. All are from Belagavi city. Mallesh Budri, another accused, is at large.
