A team from Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the suicide of Dy.SP M.K. Ganapathy following a Supreme Court directive, visited Madikeri on Thursday.
Sources said five officers from the CBI team also filed an application before the JFMC court in Madikeri seeking a copy of the investigations pertaining to Ganapathy’s suicide.
Ganapathy had committed suicide in a lodge after giving an interview to a local TV channel last year, which rocked the State government.
In the interview, he had accused then Home Minister K.J. George and senior police officials IGP Pronab Mohanty and ADGP A.M. Prasad of harassment. Soon after the interview, Ganapathy was found hanging in a private lodge in Madikeri.
Though the family members of Ganapathy and the Opposition led by the BJP sought a Central Bureau of Investigation probe, the State government ordered a CID probe and it gave a clean chit to the Minister and the officers.
But, M.K. Kushalappa, father of Ganapathy, filed an appeal before the apex court against the High Court order rejecting his plea for a CBI probe.
The Supreme Court on September 5, 2017, admitted Mr. Kushalappa’s plea and directed the CBI to investigate.
