Municipal Administration and Minority Affairs Minister Qamarul Islam, who is also the Chairman of the Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board (HKRDB), has clarified that not a single rupee earmarked for HKRDB, which has remained unspent, would lapse.
Mr. Islam told The Hindu in Kalaburagi city on Friday that rule 16 of the HKRDB clearly stated that there was no provisions for any lapse of allocated funds and the allocated funds would be carried forward to next year.
The HKRDB had been allocated a sum of Rs. 1,000 crore for the year 2014-15, but only a sum of Rs. 300 crore was released till now, giving rise to fears that the remaining Rs. 600 crore would lapse if it was not released before the end of March this year.
Mr. Islam said he and Planning Minister S.R. Patil held a joint meeting with senior officials of the Planning, Finance and Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms departments in Bengaluru on Thursday to seek clarification on the unallocated funds for the HKRDB during 2014-15.
