Around 1.5 lakh students studying medical, engineering, dental, architecture, arts, commerce, and science degree courses in government and aided colleges will get laptops free of cost.

Only students whose parents’ income is less than ₹2.5 lakh per year are eligible to get the free laptops. This would cost the state exchequer around ₹300 crore, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachnadra told presspersons after the Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Government had decided to give laptops only to students studying in government colleges. Now, it has decided to extend it to students of aided colleges also, he said.
