A healthcare mobile app that enables patients to book appointments in private hospitals, diagnostic centres and clinics in the city was launched on Friday.

The app, called ‘medapp’, has been developed by Behandeln Medcare Solutions Pvt Ltd, Mysuru. It also enables users to contact ambulances and blood banks, and locate 24x7 drug stores in their vicinity.

At the launch, the company’s chief executive officer, N. Niranjan Swamy, said 25 private hospitals, 60 clinics, 40 diagnostic centres, 25 ambulance services, 10 drug stores and four blood banks are listed on the app as of now.

The users, who can download the app for free from Google Play Store or the Apple store, can book appointments with doctors and clinics of their choice. “If the particular slot is available, a confirmation is generated and an alert is sent to the user’s mobile,” Mr. Swamy said.

The company hopes to add another 30 to 35 private hospitals to the app in the coming days.

The app lists only 24x7 drug stores and enables users to locate the stores through Google Maps. Mr. Swamy said they have developed the app for free use. “There is no commercial transaction with either the user or the medical facility,” he said.

According to Mr. Swamy, the ambulances of the 25 private hospitals listed on the app will be available round the clock.

The general public can make use of the app to call an ambulance even if they see an accident on the road. “Not always would the 108 ambulance service be available close by to attend to an emergency. Hence, if people come across an accident and think an ambulance is desperately needed to save a life, all they need to do is call the ambulance service. The caller need not give the location as it can be found through GPS (global positioning system),” Mr. Swamy said.

He also said there was a ceiling of five appointments a day. “If the user tries to book more than five slots, he will be blocked and blacklisted,” he said.

If the slot is available, a confirmation is generated and an alert is sent to the user’s mobile
