A major tragedy was averted here when a four-storeyed building housing the Rashmi Paramedical Institute and PU Science College collapsed in the early hours of Thursday.

Fortunately, the incident took place at night and not during college hours, else, it would have caused severe loss of lives.

According to reports, the college, which is located on Solapur Road near the Hussain Multi Speciality Hospital, has 50 students.

The locals said that they heard a loud sound when the building crashed and turned into rubble instantly.

Meanwhile, the city corporation has decided to issue notice to the management of the college on the incident, seeking details of permission obtained.

Speaking to The Hindu , Harsha Shetty, corporation Commissioner, said that prima facie it appeared that the management had not obtained the required permission for the construction of the building.

“We will issue notice and seek reply in three days. Based on the reply, we will take further action,” he said.

Asked whether any police complaint has been filed, he said that as there was no damage to lives or property, no case has been lodged so far.
