A set of four human skulls and some bones were found in an abandoned well at the Bal Bhavan premises in Bidar on Tuesday.

Labourers, who digging the well to dredge, it found them in one corner. “We did not find full skeletons. Some 10 bones were found along with the skulls,” a labourer at the site said.

Prakash Nikam, Superintendent of Police, said the skulls would be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory to detect details, such as age and gender. “The step well, we believe, was built by the Nizam of Hyderabad. It could be around 200 years old,” he said.

The district administration is cleaning over 170 old open wells with the hope that they yield water. In the first phase, 17 of the 40 wells dug up have yielded water.
