Troubled by the behaviour of her alcoholic husband, a woman and her three children committed suicide by jumping into an open well on the outskirts of Hadagilharuti village in Kalaburagi taluk on Sunday night.
According to sources, Jayashree Basavaraj Poojari (40) decided to live with her parents after she was sexually abused by her husband and shifted from Teerth village in Aland taluk to Hadagilharuti two months ago. On Sunday evening, Jayashree took her three children, Pavitra (12), Sunil (10) and Anil (5), to an isolated area, 4 km away from the village, and jumped into the open well.
A rescue team recovered Jayashree’s body the same night. The search operation was stopped due to rain during the night.
The bodies of the three children were recovered on Monday morning. A case has been registered at the Farhatabad police station.
